Inside NRG Stadium: Your FIFA 2026 Match Day Guide

NRG Stadium hosts 7 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, making Houston the busiest WKND host city in the tournament. The 72,000-seat retractable-roof venue sits in the NRG Park complex in south Houston.

Getting There

  • Metrorail: The Red Line runs to the NRG Park/Fannin South station. From downtown Houston, it's about 20 minutes.
  • Rideshare: $25-40 from downtown. Drop-off on Kirby Drive.
  • Driving: Parking in the NRG complex is $40-60. Multiple lots available.
  • What to Know

  • Retractable roof will be closed — Houston in June/July is 95°F+ with extreme humidity.
  • NRG Park is a large complex — the stadium, Astrodome, convention center, and several lots. Know which gate you're entering.
  • Cashless, clear bag policy.
  • Gates open 2 hours before kickoff.
  • Houston's Food Scene

Houston is arguably the best food city among all 11 US host cities:

  • Vietnamese — Midtown and Bellaire Chinatown
  • Tex-Mex — Ninfa's on Navigation, The Original Ninfa's
  • BBQ — Truth BBQ, Killen's BBQ
  • Gulf seafood — Pappadeaux, Underbelly Hospitality restaurants
  • Pro Tips

    1. Take the Metrorail. It's cheap, reliable, and drops you right at the stadium. 2. Houston humidity is no joke — dress light, bring a towel. 3. The Medical Center/Museum District area (2 Metrorail stops away) has great hotels and restaurants. 4. NRG Stadium's food options are solid — expect Tex-Mex, BBQ, and Gulf shrimp alongside standard concessions.
