Inside MetLife Stadium: Your FIFA World Cup Final Guide

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey hosts the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final on July 19 — the biggest single sporting event in US history. The 82,500-seat open-air venue will be the center of the football universe.

Getting There from Manhattan

MetLife Stadium is in the Meadowlands complex, about 8 miles west of Midtown Manhattan.

  • NJ Transit — Train from Penn Station to Meadowlands station (direct service on event days). ~30 minutes. This is the recommended option.
  • Bus: NJ Transit bus 160 from Port Authority. ~45 minutes.
  • Rideshare: Expect $50-80 from Midtown. Surge pricing will be extreme for the Final.
  • Driving: Parking $40-60. The NJ Turnpike and Route 3 will be gridlocked. Not recommended.
  • What to Know

  • Open-air stadium with no roof. July in NJ means 80-85°F. Less extreme than Miami or Houston.
  • Gates open 3 hours before kickoff for the Final (longer than standard 2 hours).
  • Enhanced security for the Final — arrive early.
  • Cashless, clear bag policy.
  • The Week of the Final

New York City will go all-in for the Final:

  • Times Square — Giant outdoor screenings for the Semifinal and Third-Place match
  • FIFA Fan Festival — Expected in Central Park or along the Hudson River
  • Fan zones in every borough
  • Cultural events — Museum exhibitions, concerts, international food festivals
  • Ticket Reality Check

Final tickets are the hardest to get in the tournament:

  • Category 1: $7,875 face value
  • Category 4 (Supporter): $60 face value — only ~450 available, lottery-based
  • Open market: Expect $5,000-15,000+ depending on matchup
  • VIP Hospitality: $8,275-73,200 per person through FIFA's official hospitality program
  • Pro Tips

    1. Stay in Midtown Manhattan near Penn Station for easiest transit to MetLife. 2. Buy your NJ Transit ticket in advance — the app and ticket machines will crash on Final day. 3. The Meadowlands has minimal pre-match options — eat and drink in Manhattan before heading over. 4. Post-match: NJ Transit runs late service. Plan for 60-90 minutes to get back to Manhattan. 5. If you're in NYC for the full Final week, explore Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO) — it'll be less chaotic than Manhattan.
